I'll just cut & paste what I received:

Effective Sunday, April 13, 2008, Member Services will discontinue airline ticket and car rental reservation services in our office. Over the years, Member Services has continued to see a decline in Member interest for airline reservations due to competitive pricing offered directly by the airlines. Booking through Member Services has offered Members no pricing advantage, and while they might have shopped for ticket prices, they often booked directly with the airline. On average, only 3% of our weekly call volume is serviced by the Travel queue, with the majority of calls pertaining to Adventures by Disney or other Member Services’ functions due to Members selecting the Travel queue in error. During FY07, Member Services booked a total of 1226 airline reservations, which represents roughly 0.01% of the Member base using this service.
At the same time, we have been able to offer Members a better alternative to reserving car rental reservations. Through a partnership with National Car Rental and Alamo, Members can receive an up to 10% discount when reserving directly with National or Alamo by using a promotional code that will be made available to them. Additionally, the promotional code can be used when the Member is traveling to any destination offered by National or Alamo. This enhancement will provide Members with 24-hour access to reserve a rental car at a discounted rate from the convenience of their own home.

Ditto! But then, for whatever reason I tend to not call MS for things that can be handled elsewhere, eg, dining reservations.

Thanks for the news.

I suspect most DVC members are the type who are going to shop and price things out themselves. I almost always book directly through a company's website to get the best prices.

Ditto, I also like to be in control of the reservation directly

We always check AAA, the Entertainment book, AMEX and all of the promotional rates for rental cars but it is nice to know its being offered.

We've booked everything through WDWTravel, but this was pre-DVC.

In general, Destination Managers receive no benefit from booking airline reservations. They used to, but the airlines stopped doing that years ago. I'm sure that this applies to Disney as well, and am wondering if they are going to phase out the WDWTravel services completely and not just through MS.

We've booked through a friend who does corporate travel management, AAA, WDWTravel, and have put together our own packages. At the time, each service/method met our needs and we felt that we were getting the best bang for our buck with each particular trip.

Now that lodging is a "fixed rate" as far as we are concerned w/ DVC, we simply look for the cheapest yet still most convenient flight for our schedule and that is through internet research as opposed to calling somebody who will be doing the same thing from another computer terminal. DW still throws all of the amazing hotel/meal deals in my direction, but I don't see us using these as long as we have points to use.
