The original DVC press release said they would release more information in early 2008. Well Tomorrow is April 1st, the start the second quarter and I have not seen or heard anything. I haven't even heard a story from a boat or bus driver.

How can you have a boat captain without a boat? It takes a while to build a transoceanic ferry ;). I'm looking forward to the 2 new cruise ships.
Just in case you haven't read this story http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2007711090339 .
I guess it takes a while to turn a billion :holymoly: dollars into a resort. Who knows 2011 maybe?

I would like to hear a bit more too. I plan on going to Hawaii in 2012 and would prefer to stay at a DVC resort rather than have to do an exchange. I know it is still a ways off, but patience has never been one of my strong suits!:innocent:

Hawaii in 2012?????? Wow, talk about some advance planning. Good for you. I'm lucky I know what we are doing for dinner tonight let alone 4 years from now.

You're both ahead of me-- I'm still trying to decide on dinner, haha :-) Any guesses on point ranges for Hawaii? Do you think it's going to be outrageous or within reason since it's one of the resorts? Do they usually stay pretty comparable or is this just a whole new ball game since it's so far from everything else?

That remains to be seen but my guess is that they will be comparable to say BWV BW view or what we are seeing with AKV point ranges. I'd be surprised if it were any different. Having something out of whack with the rest of the resorts doesn''t make much sense, IMO.
We've seen speculation about points being higher for CRV, I'm not in that camp. We will see a higher price I'd think. We'll likely see lower or no incentives for CRV making the total price slightly higher, nothing crazy though maybe a couple of dollars a point higher than AKV. HI should be selling for whatever the going rate at the time is nothing, more. I think it will prove to be a tough sell.
I have no confidence in DVC to do this right. We only have to look at the current DVC Resorts and WDW Resorts to see that Disney knows nothing about great RESORT service. Deluxe they are not and out in Hawaii they will be toe to toe with the big boys. Competition is something they have never faced as they now have a captive audience. Those that want on site must stay at a WDW Resort. They MUST evolve if they want to compete away from the "home field advantage" they currently have.
Can they do this, yes. Will they? That remains to be seen. What they will find is that Hawaii is going to be a resort people will take their chances booking at 7 months. You'll also likely see small add ons giving folks, with banking, that every other or every third year trip. Hawaii is too far and airfare too high to appeal to those beyond the West Coast. They need to go all out with this place or it will prove to be another disaster like HH.

Only because my youngest will be in college. AND I am letting my DH know now because he doesn't really want the long air travel. I figure if we can do California for a couple of days on either side of the Hawaii part it shouldn't be too bad. (We live on the East Coast). So as for when in 2012 that is still up in the air... but September is looking nice!

I heard they had purchased 21 acres on Oahu. Disney has posted info on their website at http://dvc.disney.go.com/dvc/guest/about/pressRelease?id=HawaiianResortPressReleaseDetailsP age
Take care,

Dave, While I agree that DVC has slipped recently, I will disagree with you on this one. From what I have seen and heard, this will be an absolutely amazing resort and I have full faith that it will be a big hit. Of course, spending a billion dollars, it better be. LOL. I am actually VERY excited now about this addition to DVC.
Now, to bash Disney a little bit. Once DVC sells out the Grand Californian in 2 seconds, they will likely push people into buying Hawaii as an opportunity to also use at California. i.e. Hey, you can go to Hawaii one year and trade into Disneyland the next year. There will be a lot of pissed off people if they go that route but, I think they will do that.

I am seeing a lot of complaints about DVC "slipping". Can someone share the highlights of this? I have not noticed anything where we have been.
Thanks

Well, I'll be staying next door to that property in June. I'll be at both the JW Marriott in Ko'Olina on one side of the property one week, then at the Marriott Vacation Club Ko'Olina resort the second week. At least I can see the location of where it will be.
