View Full Version : Restaurants around Vero Beach
Hi everyone! We've only got a week left and wondered if there were any VB vacationers out there that could give advice on where to eat ...or not eat near Disney's VBR?
We were there last may for 2 nights and ate at Shutters and Capt. Hirams sand bar. Both were good. The rum punch at Capt. Hirams was expecially good! :ale: OK I have to admit we mainly had drinks at Capt. Hirams and a little bar food, but we had a really good time!
We will be there for 5 nights and are Myself (like everything), DH (vegetarian -but not picky) DD 10&4 (cheese eaters; mac&cheese, grilled cheese, cheese pizza). We have found that sometimes the steak places offer a veggie option where sometimes the seafood places will not. Go figure! He just needs one entree!
Also anyone try the pizza place next door? Orchid Pizza?

THis comes from my sister, also a DVCer: Go To SquidLips!
Her family RAVED about this place. Said it was great food, with a fun laidback atmosphere, at a really good price. My niece liked it so well, she bought the t-shirt, LOL! :goodvibes

Our family LOVED the Ocean Grill. The view was spectacular and we had an amazing dinner!

If you have a taste for real French cuisine, I have heard that Café du Soir in Vero Beach proper (rather than up in Wabasso where the Disney resort is) is a very good restaurant. The emphasis there is on fresh local ingredients, and of course the chef's classical training. The menu looked really good, but a little on the rich side (cream sauces and the like).

We LOVED the Orchild Island pizza. We are from NJ but have lived in Indiana for almost 20 years and thought it was funny that Vero had GREAT New York- style pizza. You can only take out but the place is practically on grounds so you can bring goodies back to enjoy. I also had a great egg salad sandwich from there.
Enjoy! My hubby did not much like Vero (he is weird) but that pizza will probably lure him back :)
Here's a post I've been saving for VB trips. Not personally familiar with any of them, but here you go...
"McKees Botanical Garden is a walk through and is beautiful. They are open most days, even holidays but are closed on Monday. It was about $6.00 a person and they have a great little cafe that serves sandwiches. They have kid's menu.
We like Lobster Shanty for their early bird specials. The prices are right and the food is good.
On the corner of Route #60 and 58th Street near the Indian River Mall (in a plaza on the right) is the Italian Grill. Small but delicious.
Another vote for the Lemon Tree and the Ocean Grill. We have never seen any children at the Lemon Tree and very few for dinner at the Ocean Grill.
Vincent's Italian restaurant in Miracle Mile Plaza is expensive but has good food and great pizza.
Waldo's at the Driftwood Inn on Ocean Road has fantastic food but be prepared to wait because it is not very big. They have inside and outside dining. Outside is on the deck, overlooking the ocean.
Cafe Caribe on Rt 1 South. Take AIA south to Beachland BLVD, take a right over the Barber Bridge. Follow Route 60 West until you come to RT 1. Take a left. Cafe Caribe is on the left. They take reservations for 5 or more.
Lots of fast food and casual dining on Rt 1 South. IHOP, Denny's, Carrabba's.
Chili's is way down on Rt 1. Think there was an Outback too but I can't remember where that was.
TGIF, Bob Evans (similar to Perkins), Firehouse Subs and I'm sure a few I forgot at the Indian River Mall on RT60. And KFC, McDonalds, Burger King near by. They also have a movie theater and a DISNEY STORE!!!
West on Rt 60 right after the 95 overpass is the Vero Beach Outlets. They have a Steak & Shake and a Cracker Barrell as well as a wonderful Book Warehouse plus many factory outlets.
Check with the front desk about things to do in the area. When we stayed at the resort, we went to the Enviromental Learning Center, and to watch the Manatees at the Vero Beach Power Plant at the end of the 17th Street Bridge.
A1A and Ocean Road (south of Disney) have many parks right on the ocean that have children's playground. Jaycee Park is on A1A South right after the Vero Beach Inn and they have one. They have grills to cook out on, a boardwalk, picnic tables and a little restaurant. They also have a lifeguard and rest room. Get there early if you want a picnic table.
At the end of Ocean Road north is the Red Onion and the Boadwalk Ice Cream.
The RedOnion serves sandwiches and dinners.......tiny place but very good.
Boardwalk Ice Cream, serves all kinds of ice cream delights. You can call them for directions but they are right down the side street from Jaycee Park."
We're back! Sorry I didn't get your list before hand.
We actually ended up eating at the resort (Shutters) for 3 nights. That was really one too many but they did have some good varity and we didn't have to leave the beach so soon and try to figure out where to go. DH liked it bacause he had choices! 4 to be exact! I had the cashew crusted Mahi on our first night and liked it enough to order it again on our last night. (but we don't get much fish in Roc so don't take my word if you are into fish) The strip steak however was not good at all. DH had a veggie pizza, which is more of a flatbread style that he liked and order again. He also had a multi-grain pasta dish one night that he thought was a good try but didn't quite suit him. There were about 10 different kids choices. The service there was a little lacking, friendly but lacking. The first night they were overwelmed, on the second night they were diorganized on the third night the service was slow.
We did go to Capt. Hiram's sand bar again. DD9/10 chose this for her birthday dinner. It was fun. There was some live music and the rum punches are great. Not much for a Veggie here, unless you count cheese sticks and spinach dip, so DH decided to have a fish sandwich. On the way back we stoped at Publix and DD picked out a cake that we ate on the balcony of our room.
The only other night we orderd a Pizza from Orchid Island Pizza. It was pretty good. This may sound silly but I didn't really know what type of pizza 'NY style' was called. Remember I'm from way Upstate NY. We opened the box and said "Oh, it's the thin kind!" It was well made we just like a little more substance to our pie. We sat on the beach and enjoyed our little picnic watching the surf while the girls ran around.
