Tuesday, the day my best friend Elaine was due to meet me for the day, had arrived. Elaine has a ton of frequent flier points, and this is not the first time she was going to fly in for the day and leave that same night.

I woke up late, as she was due to get there about 10, and anyway I always like to sleep in at least one day. Ate breakfast on my terrace (blueberry muffin I had bought the night before at the BW bakery, which I heated up in the microwave). It was warm and sunny and beautiful, another glorious day. The phone rang just before 10, and I hurried down to meet Elaine at the entrance. I'd been to WDW with her before, but prior to DVC, so we had only stayed at the GF and Poly together. I was very excited to show her my BW home, so up to the villa we went! She was duly impressed with how big and nice the room was, and being she and her hubby only stay at the best hotels/suites when they travel it meant a lot to me that she thought so highly of BWV. She has a bit of a "thing" against having refrigerators in the room, but right away she mentioned how clean this one was and how there was no "telltale" odor, LOL. I recall her saying how it would be easy to stay in the villa for a long time, there was so much room and it was so bright and cheerful. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a221/idratherbeinwdw/Flowers.jpg

The MK is the favorite park for both of us, but we'd done that together many times, and since she only had the one day we didn't want to deal with possible waits for buses. We had decided in advance that we'd do Epcot, so we walked over to the Land and got a FP. It was about 11, and the FP was for 12-1, so we had an hour to kill. Off we went to SE, then to the new ice station cool (can't think of the name now and I am too lazy to look). Elaine has been to WDW about 10-12 times, but usually only for 1-3 days, so there were a few things she didn't know about, the soda place being one. After that we played around in innoventions for a bit, and then it was time for soarin'. The FP line was great, we got right on and luckily in the front row (none of those darn foot swingers--do you hear me Kathy? LOL). We picked up a FP for later in the day, and it was perfectly timed for us--return between 4 and 5.
Two shots from Epcot. For those who don't know me already, I am on the taller one in the shot of Elaine and me together, the single shot is elaine:

Since we only had until 6 we didn't take my usual break at the villa, instead we ate lunch at the food court in The Land right after we did soarin'. I think that's a great food court, best in WDW imho, as far as food quality goes. She had the roast chicken and I had this super tasty salad with big chunks of chicken breast. I needed something sweet, so I also got a cup of dirt with worms (choc pudding and gummi worms in case anyone doesn't know), and Elaine had some chocolate cake.

It was about 2 PM now, and we wanted to catch the 4PM Off Kilter (OK) show, and hopefully fit in the movies from China and Mexico prior to that. Our timing was super, and we did indeed catch the China one right away, hightailed it to Canada and got to see that one too. It was almost 4, so when we exited the canada movie we took seats in the front row to watch OK. Elaine was duly impressed with the guys smiling, waving and winking hi to me, that was pretty cool, LOL. They did a smoking version of Fields of Athenry, which she loved, but she did not like the way they rocked out on Danny Boy. Funny thing is that's what got me to first notice OK, i was blown away the first time I saw them do that tune. Oh well, at least she liked most of it, and I enjoyed Danny Boy.

Now it was 4:30, only 90 minutes and Elaine had to be back at BWV for her ride to the airport. So back to Soarin to use the FP, and by the time it was over it was just about time to go back to BWV. We looked around in the shop by the international gateway, and Elaine bought a cute POTC shirt. Then back to the resort and goodbye time. We had a great day together, I was so glad she decided to come for the day.

The final 2 OK shows of the day were at 6:30 and 7:30, and I watched both. At 8 I walked over to see one of my fave WS attractions, the American Adventure. There was about a ten minute wait and then it was time for the show. I always find that so touching and enjoyable and this was no exception.

Afterwards I walked back towards BWV just as Illuminations was beginning. I stood on the bridge that leads to the boardwalk and watched the fireworks with a slew of other folks who had the same idea. I was really hungry by then, so I went right to the room and ordered a ribeye steak from room service. Wow it was really good, as were the mashed potatoes and the veggies, surprised me how much I enjoyed it. And the steak, unlike the shula's variety, was small enough for me to eat the whole thing (but still plenty big). Cooked perfectly, excellent quality meat, it may have been my favorite meal the entire trip believe it or not.

I didn't feel like going back out, so time to light the candles and climb in the jacuzzi again! Afterwards I made another hot fudge sundae with whipped cream, and watched some tv, mostly disney cartoons (dare I sing the lambert song again? LOL). I went online, checked my email and these boards, and then about 12 or so I went to sleep.

BTW I forgot to mention that I posted to the boards to say hi on day two of my trip. It was REALLY cool to have the laptop (first time for me) and say hello and get all your wonderful replies while I was actually at WDW. Next time, if I have the spare time and energy, I'd like to try to post a trip report daily as it is happening. :sunny:

I'm glad you liked the pic Laura. FYI, (in case you haven't noticed) if you go to our main website, mouseowners.com and click on BWV you'll find a slide show of a 1BR at BW. Pics mine, slide show courtesy of our wonderful webmistress Kim.

Loved the Photos Mar....I'm glad your friend had a wonderful day, tho her kitchen phobia makes me laugh and I can't imagine only coming in for the day and flying right back.

LIked the flowers especially...I too have to fill up my vacation room with 'homey' stuff like flowers and candles. I love to travel but at the same time carry a little 'home' with me in my suitcase.

Just so you feel a little better--the day after Elaine left it got down to a chilly 70 degrees in the day :) (at night it was low 60s). Hey I deserved it, last year at the same time I froze my tushie off!

Actually you may not know it but you deserve all the credit for me discovering Roller Coaster Meltdowns. You told me you and your friend Monica loved them, that's what made me try one to begin with. Yummmmy!:yummy: :margarita

Yep Elaine sure is a pip! One of a kind. And my best friend in the whole world who I can count on through thick and thin and who is generous beyond belief. So I am more than happy to put up with her little quirks. I think the fridge thing is silly too by the way, but I have to admit she got me to give it the "sniff test" every time I get a new villa. And I am happy to report that I have never once had a smelly fridge. :)

As far as " a little home in a suitcase", I am so there! I used to use an old sports bottle for a vase, but it was such an eyesore. This last trip I actually took the glass vase you can see in the pic with me, and I was so glad I did. Little things like that really do make me happy. These had to have been the nicest flowers I ever bought from Publix, they lasted the entire six days and looked fresh up until the very end (OK I had to pluck some dead leaves but the flowers stayed great :)). I am a real "nester" and I can hardly wait to unpack when I arrive at the villa, put out my candles, magazines, the flowers, and hang my clothes up in the closet. Oh and I bring my own pillow and (disney) towel from home too, as well as WDW washcloths that I have bought on previous trips. I'm probably leaving something out. I literally have one suitcase for clothing, and one for food and all the "homey" stuff. I bet lots of us here do similar things, especially as DVC-ers. After all it is our "home away from home". :howudoin: :goodvibes :clappingh

I SO agree! I have learned to make any hotel room my home. I left you some advice about shipping stuff in a USPS flat rate box on the 'homey' thread.

Sounds like you had a great day! I had some 'pop in' visitors too during my last vacation, and like you I proudly showed off 'my home'....
