Anyone care to share comments or tips regarding going to WDW and leaving young kids at home?

We did it once before....a couple of years ago...DS was 3 and DD was not quite 1. With the kids being so young, it wasn't a big deal. The trip was a relatively short 3 nights, and my mother spent those days at our house watching the kids. They had a lot of fun with Grandma.

Now the topic came up again, looking ahead to 2007. DW and I would obviously appreciate the time alone together. Don't have to worry about nap time...staying out late...no 7am wakeup calls...you know the routine. Sure, there are other places we could go, but none where you can enjoy Rock N Rollercoaster together. :)

How did you handle it with the kids? How did they respond to the trip?

Actually, the first time we did it, my boys were 9 and 6. They were going with their Dad to NY to visit family. DH and I eloped to WDW:beatinghe

The second couple trip happened last July for our seventh wedding anniversary and guess where the kids went? Yes, they so love a trip to NY with Dad to see family that they really don't care where we go:ROTFL: Well, they might have liked it better to go on both trips but they are old enough to get it and cope well:beaniepro

My parents are moving to Florida as soon as their house in PA sells, and I am totally daydreaming about an "adults only" trip to WDW. My kids have monopolized our trips for so long, that DH and I deserve a mini trip together. Mom and Dad are moving to a giganto geezer community with a zillion pools, so I know the kids will have fun staying there for 3 nights or so while DH and I have fun. Then they can all join us in Orlando. I SOOOO heare you on the "no early mornings" etc. I love my kids dearly, but they fight constantly and gripe every second the trip isn't going their way. A trip alone together is just what my hubby and I need.

I guess when our trips approaches, I will focus on the time we will ALL spend at WDW, and downplay the extra days DH and I will be there... Even though those days are what I will be looking forward to. If you decide to go off on your own, just make sure you have at least tentative plans for the next family trip so your kids can look forward to that. And prepare for the kids to lay on the guilt... I know mine will!

We've done it lots of times and tell the kids to get over it. We tell them generally what we're doing but try not to rub their noses in it. By all means, do it; WDW is such a great place to just relax. May I suggest a one bedroom unit--even though there's just the two of you along wth some champagne and candles for the jacuzzi?!
