Wish SW flew out of where we live. I have to go to Detroit or Chicago (both about 2.5 to 3 hour drive away) for that. No one will take us that far so we don't have to pay for long term parking.
Once I add that and gas I may as well fly out of my airport. To expensive.

cobbler - Have you looked into Allegiant out of Lansing? Sure teh parking was about $40 for teh week, but the price and a non-stop flight were worth it.

Cobbler try flying out of Canada you would pay 3 times that ammount it is close to 450 a person to fly from Toronto to Orlando. Plus Pearson is about an hour and a half from us so we either drive ourselves and pay to park or we take the Robert Q which is 30.00 a person each way. I would love to be able to fly to Orlando from home for 107.00 a person it would make the park and fly a very viable option. We will even drive to Buffalo or DTW for our flights with teh SWA rates mind you it is still cheaper to just drive to Florida from home rather than pay for flights for a family of 5. This is the quote for a family of 5 flying discount air with Tango owned by Air Canada from Toronto to Orlando and back.

TO think people wonder why we choose to drive down LOL. Even with Jet Blue out of Buffalo it was 1556.00 US still cheaper than flying from Toronto but no where near as cheap as driving or as fun as far as our family is concerned.

That's so weird! I never got that Ding today. I just assumed everyone got the same ones. I've been on the computer since 5 am and never got an Orlando one. I checked right after you first posted it and mine didn't have orlando as an option for Long Island or for Hartford.
Glad it worked out for you!!:goodvibes

Carrie-
Thanks I will check that out for our next trip.
DSNY-
We drive down too. For our family of 4 it would run us around 1200-1300 bucks to fly from where we live. So we can go back and forth on gas cheaper.

Cobbler: here's a thought. Could you drive down to the SW serviced city the night before your flight and get a motel with an airport shuttle that lets you leave your car there for 'free' (they sometimes charge more for the hotel room if you add a car park)....My drive to Denver airport is 2 hours...and with snow and skier traffic, I've given up and just drive the night before and park at the hotel for the week....it is actually cheaper than airport parking. Another way to save on parking is if the city has a park and ride bus system. Usually, you can park free and then pay to ride the bus to the airport.
Now that Denver has Southwest into Phoenix, Chicago and Baltimore....I can fly to Orlando if I'm willilng to go to Chicago. So far it isn't worth it, but someday, my direct to MCO will come!!!
Another driver here. With a family of 5, the cost of flying and renting a minivan for 2 weeks is just too steep. I don't mind the drive down at all. It is an exciting and fun part of the family vacation. But after a 2 week vacation in July, I could do without the drive home. But for the money saved, I will continue to do it.
In 2007, we are planning a week-long trip in December. For that trip I will bite the bullet and fly. I think driving for 4 days for a 7 day vacation is a bit much. Plus it will be winter and you never know what kind of weather you are going to hit.

We take all our trips pretty much in Dec for 2 weeks and drive down nothing better than a 2 week holiday at Disney right before christmas to set the season off on the right foot. When we went this past May (never again past January) we only went Sun-Thursday and we drove straight there and straight home it wasn't a bad drive but it rained in Kentuky so hard you could barely see the end of the hood of your vehicle.

That is exactly why we drive. To keep costs down. Right after Katrina we went down when gas was 2.99 a gallon EVERYWHERE and we spent 350 round trip and one night hotel stay - around 75 - on the way home.
On the way down we have family we can bunk with for the night, either in Atlanta or Alabama if we are spending a couple of days in Bama.
So our cost with gas, one night hotel and some food is around 400-500 (depending on gas prices) for a family of 4. Granted it takes 2 days there and back but . . .
