If I recall correctly as a DVC member, we are allowed to park at the Boardwalk for dinner at the Flying Fish and Boardwalk entertainment night?
thanks

Anyone can do self-parking to dine or shop. But your blue ID will get you free valet parking. You just need to tip.
The self-park lot is set back a ways from the resort--probably a 3-4 minute walk to the lobby. I've heard it can also fill up in the evening during busier times of the year.

Ah that's it - the free valet parking - thanks for the memory jogger
Do you tip on way in and out?
thanks

From all my reading of posts when this question has come up-it's on the way out.

Boy, some of the longest threads ever have been about nothing more then when and how much to tip a valet.
I agree that the general concensus as been to tip on the way out, but IMO it's cheap insurance to tip both ways.
Actually, I think it's safer to tip the man parking my vehicle. If he feels he's getting stiffed when I don't tip him, he has the opportunity to mistreat my vehicle. The guy bringing my car back to me doesn't get his chance to burn me if I don't chose to tip him.
A wise person indeed!
I tip both ways for a slightly different reason. The first person finds me a parking spot, and the second one goes out and finds my car in the parking lot. :ROTFL: Both are things I'd rather not waste my time doing. ;)

I do the same thing for the same reason! :howudoin: DH likes to make fun of me for being so mistrusting and "paranoid". LOL

We always park at teh self park when we go to BW it is at the most a minute or so walk. We have never been that far away from even from teh back section of that lot it is at most a 2 minute walk. I prefer to park my own car we have never used the valet service no real point IMHO.

We have always used the valet service, even when it isn't free. I even use the valet if I'm just stopping back at the hotel for a quick break or to change clothes and going right back out again. It's one of the things I love about the deluxe resorts.
I always tip both ways because it may not be the same person both times. I base it on good service. Plus I don't think the staff makes all that much money.

Thanks for all the replies
Seems like a tip both ways is the most equitable and best insurance too :fresh:

We usually tip $2 - $3 both coming in and going out.

We were thinking $1.50-$2.50

It certainly adds up but it beats walking miles from a far away parking lot or paying the $7 for the service plus tip.
Plus, if you valet at a DVC you will get a valet tag in your window. Then if you go to a non-dvc, they'll not charge you for the valet service -- just tipping. I'm not sure that this is right or not, but our last two trips that's what we experienced.

We have had the valet give us a tag also but they really shouldn't. The free valet service perk is only good at DVC resorts. Don't ask, don't tell.

Yeah, it's one of those small guilts on our part. :innocent: We know it is wrong but we do it anyway. :shhh: And it was completely discovered by accident two trips ago. We've never asked for the tag, but it has been just given to us. :p
It comes in real handy for valet parking at The Grand Floridian which I SWEAR that lot is about 5 miles away from the resort itself!!!
Three dollars in and three dollars out unless it's a downpour; then five dollars for hazardous duty. At the Contemporary, we always tip Terry five dollars because he's the best!!
