There's a thread on the other boreds that the current incentive for SSR is 15% off purchase of 120 points or more and you get current UY points too. Comes out to $83.30 per point.....hmm tempting, very tempting.....
On a side note, layoff notices go out in the next few days where I work :( . As luck would have it, I'm off Friday & Monday...the days most likely the notices would go out...& Tuesday too. If I win the Lucky Layoff Lottery, we could use my severance check to purchase an add on..... :D

I saw that too. That's pretty darn cheap. HAve we ever seen the price go lower on a DVC before? It seems like teh price goes up and the incentive usually makes the new price the same or slightly higher.
Not sure what to wish you on the layoff. Especially, with the marathon closed. However, you may still be able to marathon under Team -in-Traning. Your severance would have to go to a charitable donation for that, though.

Yeah, I'm not leaning either way on the layoff either....If I want to be laid off and I'm not, then I'll be disappointed...If I don't and I am, then distraught....
It's not really a win-win, because it's either now or certainly by 2nd qtr next year....and I don't want to be last out the door unless there's a good "lights out" bonus that goes with that....
Since we were closed out of the 1/2 marathon this year, we went ahead and canceled our BWV stay....and booked HH studio for the week of Spring Break instead. Also haven't emphasized running lately but have been doing spin 2x's week....except this week b/c my semi-annual allergies just kicked in...but the spin has really helped the endurance and when I do run, my times are much better. I think we're going to try for the '07 1/2 or full.
Now back to the incentive, since I have a December UY, would I get '04 points (banked, of course) with that?

I couldn't find any more details, but when tehy say "current" UY, that sound like 2004 to me for December. FYI - Disney Visa has a 6 months no interest for DVC add-ons special right now!
My dh was in your position a coule of years ago. He got an offer for some good $ to stay until the und. Unfortunately, that meant he could not even interview, as he did not know when the end was. As it happened, they kept his corner of the world around. For 15 months, though, we did not know what would happen. A VERY nervewracking time! I'll send some prayers and pixie dust your way!

With a price in the lower 80's that makes it competitivie with any resale, and also happens to make it an even better deal if you factor in the fact that you get 12 extra years. PLus SSR ahs reasonable dues (especially to someone like me with BWV... or certainly to a VB owner!)
But sadly, I left my spare $10,200 in my pocket the other day and it went through the wash and shrank.... to $1.02. :(
Oh well. I guess I can drown my DVC can't-add-on blues in a 7-11 slurpee. :ale:

So does anyone have the exact details?
Is it $83+ a point for a minimum 120 points BUT you get 2004 points too? Or was that a typo and we would get 2005 points with dues already paid?????

I think if you have a Dec UY, you may get the '04 points. If so, I'd only take 'em if they're banked for me. Also, dues start when you get the contract.

I think it is "current UY." However, I do not know for sure how they are doing UY where the 2005 UY has not started yet.

Hello I am a newbie here but hope to use this forum as another way to learn and communicate more as we begin our DVC membership. Hopefully we will start the final process in the next two days.
Here is what we were told. Based on purchasing 200 pts for a new member with a referral from a current member there are 4 specific incentives.
1. They will back date the contract. Currently sales are being made for June 2006. They are offering points from June 2005 and partially prorating dues. (trying to get exact numbers on this part) So we will start out with 400 points available.
2. 1600 cash back (doubled with a referral)
3. Closing costs paid by Disney
4. Pro rated dues
We were originally planning to do the reseller route but now we will probably go with Disney... Hopefully I will know more tomorrow...
Seems like they are being pretty aggressive with this package, I don't know why but hopefully we can take advantage of this opportunity.
Coming home soon!

My guide is out sick for 2 weeks so she has some other gide replacing her and her numbers were really weird so we have to wait for our original guide to come back before we will do it because her numbers actually came out higher than what we wound up paying at 89 point with nothing off. :thumbsway I don't know how in mathematical history this could be but hopefully she is as wrong as we think she is so we can do our add on.

Just wanted to add that I spoke to my guide about 2004 points for December UY's and she said they were all gone. Only 2005 for everyone.

I think that is the same discount CMs get -- DVC selling points like GM sold cars over the summer -- everyone get's employee pricing?

I've also wondered if this strengthens the argument for a DVC a CR - are they trying to sell SSR out as much as possible before that is announced? I can't imagine that SSR would be as popular as any monorail DVC for the majority.
I suspect that there is a lot of profit margin in the price of those points and the important part is to get the points in the hands of dues paying members. Not quite equal to razors and razor blades, but close.

When we were at our visit to SSR I asked our host about a new resort. He didn't say there was one around the corner but he did kind of hedge at the possibility in the future (kind of acting like he knew something he couldn't say). I know I am spreading information that can't be proven but hey its the internet and we all love the thought of more possibilities at WDW. So just let me share my dreams!

Bryan,
I think it's a given that SOME other resort is on the horizon. It's just a question of where and when. The final phase of SSR isn't slated to open unti 2007, so they should be selling SSR points at least into 2008. Of course, given the development time for a new resort (about 2.5 - 3 years) and the reality that they often sell points at more than one resort at once, an announcement could come anytime now.
The most popular rumors are, in no particular order:
* Contemporary Resort - amidst the current multi-million dollar resort rehab, no future has been announced for the North Garden Wing.
* Animal Kingdom Lodge (some claim that the original construction included hidden ground work for future development, but that may well be an urban legend)
* Eagle Pines Resort - this was actually announced prior to SSR, but was put on hold after 9/11. Eagle Pines was not the formal name, but it's most frequently referred to in that manner due to its location alongside the EP golf course.
* Disneyland - DVC sales kiosks opened in DL last spring. Will they continue to sell points at WDW indefinitely?
* The most popular off-site rumors are a Colorado ski resort or Hawaii. Would DVC venture off-site again after taking 10 years to sell-out Vero Beach?
Many have reported that DVC has at least three projects on the drawing board. My guess is that means they are all candidates for getting the green light. However, it is entirely possible that not even DVC knows which will be the next development--particularly with the recent Iger succession.

Assuming you're talking about the SSR discount, I happen to agree. Some will say that SSR isn't selling well, thus a need for the discounts. I think it's a little more complicated than that.
Some considerations include:
* 2006 budgets are about to be set, which will include a subsidy by DVC to cover dues on unsold units. In other words, DVC has to pick-up part of the dues for '06. So, some of the additional discount is offset by the dollars that DVC will save not having to pay that subsidy on the points.
* I suspect sales costs are lower on referred members. When I refer someone, I make it clear that they are welcome to come to me with any / all questions. Two or three email messages or telephone calls to me means two or three phone calls to a DVC guide are unnecessary.
* I also suspect that closing rates are higher on referred members. Again, those being referred already know something about the program. I'm certain a much larger percent of members who are referred agree to buy than those who walk up to a DVC booth at the theme parks or request a DVD from home.
* It is getting folks who may be on a waiting list for add-ons at the sold-out resorts to reconsider their decision. Let's see...$92 per point for 37 years at BCV or $83 per point for 49 years at SSR. Hmmmmmm.
* It's taking a shot at the resale market. Look at all the people we've seen say that they would have bought resale until this offer came along. As Jim implied, even a lower profit margin on SSR still leaves considerable profit margin.
Some numbers to consider: when fully developed, SSR will represent over 13 million points in the DVC system. If we figure an average sale price of $85 per point, SSR will produce about 1.1 BILLION dollars in revenue for Disney. Subtract sales and construction costs, and I bet Disney still turns a tidy profit on the project. They also get guaranteed annual revenue at theme parks, restaurants and souvenir shops for the next 50 years from thousands of satisfied guests. Not a bad deal, eh?

Very good points. Consider also that DVD had no land acquisition costs, minimal environmental costs and much of the basic infrastructure was already in place.

Our sales rep said it wasn't going to last long and gave us a couple days to decide but I think he was just using some "salesmanship tactics" anyway it kept us motivated to get it done. I wonder how long it will last also.

Just to give you some peace of mind, it is very common for DVC Guides to impose a 72-hour purchase deadline after touring the model rooms in order to get the current incentive. We could probably spend all day debating the value of that restriction since it seems to create an awful lot of bad feelings in a timeshare pitch that is otherwise very laid-back.
Of course that has no bearing on how long the current 15% discount will be around. With DVC sending out mailers to members, I'm guessing it will be at least through the end of the month. I just got my mailer on Saturday, and I'm sure some are still en route. You can't very well send a notice through snail mail and then end the promotion shortly thereafter. If it had been an email notice that said "act quickly, limited time offer", I'd be more inclined to think the timeframe was limited to days or weeks.
I've also wondered if this strengthens the argument for a DVC a CR - are they trying to sell SSR out as much as possible before that is announced? I can't imagine that SSR would be as popular as any monorail DVC for the majority.
This was my thought. They'll never sell SSR as quickly if something along the monorail, or even DL, opens. Personally, that is what I'm waiting for. The 120 point offer is great, but it would be a bit of a financial stretch right now considering our other plans. Thus, in a few years if DL or CR or something else opens I'm sure I'll jump on a fresh 50 year contract either for us or in the kids names.
Too bad DVC does not offer a trade up option. Buy now and have the ability to trade up to a larger contract at a new resort with full credit to the points you exchange. I guess it would be a problem with lots of excess inventory that they have to cover the dues on.

We received our cards in the mail last week and 15% off is not really worth me adding on. If you really break it down isnt it about the same amount of money DVC has been offering in other deals. :Pokepoke:

We just committed, so our contract is on its way!
We get June 2005 points, but we don't pay dues for June, July, August, September, October, or the first half of November. Not bad.
We got 200 points at SSR with the 15% incentive, and we'd like to add-on in a few years, either at BWV (because we got married on the Boardwalk earlier this month and honeymooned at BWI) or at some yet-to-be-named property with a later end date. I'm just 27, and my husband is 34, so those last 12 years are important to us. If we owned at an older property, we would be losing our DVC right around the time we retire.
