Does anyone know if DVC members can get a discount if we just purchase the cruise and not use points? Don't want to wait to save up enough points, but would love to do the Mexican cruise for our anniversary next year. Thanks for all your help.

None that I am aware of, although they know when you are on board if you are a DVC member. You get some DVC goodies...
If you book a cruise while on a cruise, you get a discount (10%?) and a nice cabin credit..

Are you kidding? They charge us more for a (special) DVC cruise than a normal non-DVC cruise! Sorry, I am a little jaded in the DVC/cruise combo. No, as answered, no DVC discounts.
On the bright side, we booked our 9/08 cruise through Sam's club and are getting (in addition to a discounted group rate) a $200 Sam's club card plus a $100 gift certificate for belonging to the Elite or whatever Sam's calls their more expensive membership. That comes to about $2332 for CAT 5 for a 7 night special itinerary cruise (2 adults).

That sounds like a great value Muushka!:worship:
I think using our points for cruises doesn't maximize our point values. Of course we've done two through DVC and plan another for 2009. But we've got more timeshare options than vacation time at this point in our careers.

This is quite correct. I will post an analysis of point usage for cruises vs paying cash.
Efffectively, Disney gives you less than $7 per point when you use your DVC points for cruises.
Financially, it is one of the worst uses for DVC points

:holymoly: I knew it was a bad deal... but..... mama doesn't have enough vacation time.:boohoohoo
However.... please post your analysis when you have time. I'll make sure to use that to my benefit when mama has as much vacation time as papa.
