View Full Version : Healthy Valentine's Challenge

Now that many of us are really thinking about being healthier, and a little skinnier, for the new year, I think we need a new challenge. Seeing as we've had a bit of a late start, I though Valentine's would be a nice time to be a little lighter. I'm ging tochallenge everyone to lose 5 pounds, but my main goal is to eat healthier and keep up with my exercise. Recovering from my WDW binge will not be easy. Ice creams at least once a day are nice, but I can't keep that up. NOt to mention, my mileage will be going way down now.

So, who's with me. Anyone who loses anything is a winner, but I think 5 pounds is a nice goal to try for. We can weigh in this week and finish the week of the 14th.

Let's keep each other accountable! Try to check in at least weekly and let us know how you're doing, but more would be great too.

Oh I am soo in. I have to be better. I realized this past week that I do have the time to workout its just that I put it off until it is to late.

My goal is to workout in the morning before I start to do anything else.

:hyper: Count me in!!!

I was just awful over the Christmas holidays...and beyond. All that candy and cookies!!! I would like to drop a few pounds and stay faithful to my exercise!

So......what are we all doing to move??? I generally go to kickboxing class 2 or 3 times a week and then occasionally a pilates class. I just have to keep it up...no matter how much torture it is (and for me it's torture) :innocent:

What is everyone else doing?

Honestly: dancing to The Wiggles and "Step in Time" from Mary Poppins. Over and over. And O-V-E-R. And throwing my Cirque du Soleil wannabe 2 yr. old in the air about 40 times a day. She's 25 lbs., so I guess that's something.

AmyBeth68

Oh yeah...that works. Especially the wiggles busines. That was my main form of exercise when my kids were really little too LOL!!!!

count me in too.

Hey nono, you do realize we have to be somewhat good the week before VDAY!! This will be tough to eat good at The happiest food place in the world, but I really need to get this extra off. I am down to my fat jeans.:thumbsway

2 times around neighborhood, running, (1 mile, stop laughing Carrie and Mel!) every off day. No taking elevator at work.

Okay, I'm in, although I seriously doubt that I can lose 5 pounds that fast and have it count - not water or whatever, but a real 5 pounds. I've been really close to where I want to be for a long time, and that last five pounds is killing me (but the babies are worth it, hey?). So I'm in, and I'll try, but I'll think 3 is really good.

Rozzie,

Our dues go to those darn gyms, let's use 'em! I work out more on vacation than I do at home, unfortunately! But that way we can :ale: and come out net neutral!

#1 - Rozzie - 1 mile is wayyyyyy more than I could do at this time last year.
#2 - Walking WDW helps teh weight thing a lot. You two should eb fine.
#3 - jnrrt - The key is to work towards teh goal. 5 will be tough (maybe impossible) for me too, but having a goal just helps keep me on track. I'd be thrilled with 3 too.

I'm definitely in, Carrie! I'm glad you came back to challenge us:teacher: I thought about challenges; I even thought about a five pound challenge, but I even hated to start without you here to jump in in time:howudoin:

I have a treadmill and recumbent bicycle at home. Like you said, cobbler, I do my workout early in the morning, otherwise, it might not happen! I also do weight and ab work several times a week.

I've got to weigh myself and check in.

I DID NOT work out today :o , but I do have an excuse. My little one was not feeling well so I figured it was best to stay home from the gym. I'm hoping to get to the gym 3 days this week.

I'm in. It's not food that kills me, it's not moving that does. So I am trying to move somehow, everyday.

Yesterday I walk a mile on the treadmill in 20 mins. Today I did lots of running up and down the stairs cleaning and doing laundry.

This is practically a miracle if you don't know me, so you are all already an inspiration.

then no Funyons for you Carrie!

(none for me either...dont know how I ate those so often when I was pregnant lol)

I am in...a bit later than all you and I will weigh in tomorrow morning. I can't bring myself to weigh at night. (I think that is a heavy person's reaction to a scale - its hard to face at any time, but it is easier in the a.m. when I haven't eaten all day, etc).

I am not doing well on walking or moving and I could make a million excuses, but I will simply skip all that and try to do better!!!

but one thing I have been doing *patting myself on the back* is eating salads like crazy lately. Not sure why, but it is what I am craving ALL the time. Good salads...with different things like nuts and fruit etc on top, mixed greens...mmmmmmmm I enjoy a basic side salad, but what I am craving is unique types of salads....

Do any of you have a Doc Greens near you? OMG that place makes YUMMY salads and is really reasonable. I get a salad called a Dr. Beeks which is field greens, cran raisins, walnuts, crumbled feta cheese, sometimes croutons and a yummy vinagrette dressing (which I am sure has sugar in it - but still!). If you have one near you, I would highly recommend it! http://www.docgreens.com/menu.php

I figure there is almost nothing I could put on a salad that would make it as bad for me as say a Whopper with fries (ok - I don't eat Whoppers - but you get the point) except maybe a Whopper and fries as a topping!!! At least that is what I am going to keep telling myself until I stop craving salads!

I do mean craving....a pecan chicken salad last night from O'Charley's take out, today for lunch the dr beeks salad...and tonight probably the black and blue salad from O'Charley's (hubby went there last night for me since I am CRAVING THAT SALAD and tonight is kids eat free night so the boys want to go lol Our Tuesday night regular meal then we dont usually eat out again all week).

You know...I would think I was expecting again except I am 100% sure I am not lol

Laura, stop. You're making me really hungry. As I don't have good stuff in the house to make such a salad, I will end up eating dried papaya, which is what I do have. And while it's good for you and all, it's chock full of sugar. And I can eat it all day. And it won't help anyway, since I'll want that salad, so I'll just keep eating other things, and eating other things...

What is up with that? And I really really really want Greek food, but not a salad.

It's so sad to love food.

DSNY - Um, 600 crunches?? Are you serious?? I think I would die!!! Hokey pete.

Anywho yesterday I did a 30 minute cardio. What is that, 2 days in a row?? WOO HOO.

Today I am really tired so I may take this as a rest day. The rotation I am doing has 6 day workout weeks and I know my body can only take 5 so this may be the day I take off. I will have to see how I feel this afternoon.

And I still forgot to weigh in.

OK....I weighed myself this morning. And as suspected I am exactly 5 pounds heavier than the weight that is best for me.

I did an hour long cardio-kickboxing class this morning which included 100 pushups, 50 scissor kick crunches and 75 twisting crunches. Woo-Hoo....my abs are the big struggle.

I made a banana-yogurt smoothie for b'fast but I'm STARVING now ;). I'll make some green tea with honey to hold me over until lunch. Today is my grocery shopping day and I'm motivated to buy healthy snacks so I should come home with good stuff...not the JUNK I've been eating since T'giving :(.

Great job WDWMOM!!!

We took a co-worker to lunch yesterday for hir birthday, so I had dessert. Here's where things get good, though. I typically just write that day off and eat whatever I want after that. Not to bad, just gets achy when I do to much with it so I will let it rest today and do some low impact tomorrow.

Hiberantion-pudgy Gopher checking in here. Ironically, I had begun my own weightloss/ get fit do-it-now ultimatum this week, never having seen this thread. I had set a goal of 4 lbs per month for the next 3 mos (I told you I've been hibernating!!), but what the hey, why not shoot for 5 lbs in the first month? Please count me in!

I've been a good little rodent, gnawing on fruits, veggies, and such when the urge to munch hits me. As for "moving", need to dust off the elliptical downstairs, and I just happened to win (through my employer) a 6 mos membership to a local fitness center - sounds like a good time to activate it! In about 6 mos we do our 2 week vacation to Universal / WDW - I'll need to be fit to keep up with my crew in that August heat! It would be nice to look a little less like gopher, and a little more like, say, Minnie (except skip the footwear - those spiked clunkers would definitely would earn me a spot of BadSHoe.com)

I had weighed in on SUnday, and as of today, was down by 1 lb but I ASSURE you - in the next week, it will go UP. Does anyone else do this - if you have been lethargic lately, not really excercising, and then you start excercising those muscles - you GAIN weight? As you buld up muscle, it weighs more than fat (or at least that's how it was explained to me.... whatever!) Either way, it's ok with me - because even while I'm gaining weight, in that early phase I actualy see immediate improvement in terms of inches / clothing fit, etc. And it usually then motivates me to keep going... at which point eventually, my weight will finally start to go down. I did a great job losing these 12 lbs 2 yrs ago, but then my mom had a heart attack, life got crazy, and I got lazy. 'Nuf said. It's taken me 2 yrs to get up the nerve to take them back off, and I want to do it right. I really need to be in the "ZONE" again anyway (Zone diet) because it really really really helps my body and does wonders for my rheumatoid arthritis in hands/feet. Never felt better than when I was on it, but it does take dedication.

As an added complication - My job seems to be taking me all over lately - I'm headed to Kentucky in Jan, up north in Feb., Orlando in March, and N.C. in March... and possibly - somewhere this spring - Italy and/or Belgium. Woof. All that dining out may kill me, so I'll have to really stick to the cause! Feel free to whack me with a stick if I reach for a Reese's....

Are you taking anything to control your arthritis? Working out really, really:sunny: helps my lupus too!!!

I know you are a scientist. What are you doing workwise when you're traveling so much?

I am only taking naproxen sodium (i.e. Alleve) for now as needed - it's only in my hands and feet, and thankfully stays fairly under control unless I (a) eat crappy or (b) let myself get too run-down. Unfortunately -- lately both (a) and (b) apply! Mornings and evenings are the worst - feels like my hands are little crusty claws that can't open or shut, until I can get them moving and limbered-up.

As for work - I'm an analytical chemist by training, and now a product development scientist by profession. The Orlando trip is a huge convention for analytical chemists. The other travel is either to visit with customers who use the products we develop, or to visit other labs / facilities within our company that make them. It's so challenging and fun (in a science nerd way, LOL!) - I just wish I didn't feel so guilty about leaving home! I worked part-time for 10 yrs while our kids were younger, but now they all in school. Even so - I still feel guilty if I have to travel... :( And I am definitely a mood-food connected person! I have to be really careful not to graze all day at my desk, or eat the wrong stuff while on the road. The weeks ahead will be a real challenge for me!

Okay, some perspective please.

I worked out officially today. It is the first day I have done any kind of exercise on purpose other than occassional toning stuff on my living room floor, and one one-month stint of swimming that happened a year ago, in about 12 years. I hate exercise. I really do. I have three children, and they keep me hopping. I figure that's pretty good.

But today, my kids had a theater class, and I had an hour to kill, so I went up (it's in the community center and we belong there so can use the gym), and inspired by marathon-y people here, walked and ran for about 35-40 minutes. I walked pretty fast 2 minutes, then ran two minutes, etc. etc. I was figuring out the gym, so started on the track, went to treadmill since the track was crowded, got kicked off (didn't understand the signing out of machines. oops.) and finished on another machine. Because of all that, I'm not sure what I did, but I think I went a bit over 2.5 miles. I know the machine said I was walking on a 16 minute/mile pace, and running at an 11 minute/mile pace. I felt like I could have kept going for a bit, but I had to pick up the girls. I plan to do this every week while they are in class.

So what do I need to know? How fast am I supposed to be getting my heartrate? Is it better to run holding on or not (I held on - didn't want to die, and I was very intimidated by being in a gym, I could just picture me getting distracted and flying off into the air). How long is long enough? How in the world do you do that for hours and not get totally bored?

Anyway, I don't want to die now, it was fine, and I was pretty proud of that. But I realize that I am really not educated in this area. Do I need to be?

Help me out, runner types. Oh, and I got my shoes out of a lost and found about 10 years ago. They didn't bother me, but I'm guessing that's bad. I hate athletic shoes, so I haven't ever bought them (and yes, I was allowed to take them from the lost and found, no stealing, I promise). So do I need to do something different for casual jogging on a treadmill?

Thanks!

Wow, j, I am impressed that you did that and impressed that the marathon-y types have had that effect on you:highfive: Okay, first, about these shoes...if you have worn them very much in the preceding ten years, it would be a very good idea to buy a new pair with new cushioning, esp if you are going to jog also:doublejum

As far as holding on...it is better to use the arms of the treadmill mainly for balance which means a very light touch or hold. Generally, you can walk and even jog without holding on. If you tend to want to hold on, you may be going too fast too soon, so be careful:holymoly:

I'm going to leave the rest to some of the other even more expert fitness buffs, except to say that a minimum aerobic workout would be twenty minutes, really thirty if you factor in a proper warmup and a cooldown. I really like to go for at least forty-five minutes:D

As I said, I really hate athletic shoes. The closest I'll come is hiking boots. So really, I'd be surprised if I've worn those shoes more than 10 times in 10 years. My dh laughs when I dig them out. Waaaayyyy '90's dude.

But, I would think any cushioning they might have had has still eroded over time and is probably pretty stiff now? Plus, the choices really abound now! Maybe, you could go to an Academy Sports and just try on a few...no commitment;) Hiking boots really aren't for jogging, by the way, don't do it girl!:D

Okay, all I've managed to do this week is (a) eat a healthy b'fast (please note what a HUGE struggle that is - normally I'm a "skipper"...) and (b) not eat the junky stuff, and lo and behold - 2 lbs off since last week's original weigh-in. :D

THis week I'll kick into higer gear with some excercise, so I expect I'll gain back that small deficit (and may even add about 3 more to go with it over the next week or so!) Such is my fate. Nonetheless, seeing 2lbs off on the ol' scale was a bit of a morale booster, even if it it is "non-muscle" mass that still has to be "converted" to leaner gopher-tissue through some good ol' sweat equity.... ;)

Wishing everyone success and will-power in the week ahead!

I had some circa 1980's sneakers, actually, as well as 1990's - and finally ditched them. SOme were for aerobics, some were for tennis, some for running - and all were in decent shape in terms of the uppers. But out they all went - why? The cushioning and soles had really suffered over the years. Major Dry-Rot, and the soles were actually slick instead of grippy! You wouldn't know it to look at them - but once I tried on a new pair of shoes, I knew the reality - my old shoes were TOO OLD!! The newer materials are just SOOO light and so much better engineered - give it a shot, it's so very worth it!

You haven't said what you have been using instead of athletic shoes? Just be careful - you can do some serious damage to yourself if you're not wearingthe proper footgear. I once let someone talk me into playing a few quick minutes of tennis (I had been out running and stopped at the courts to see how the games were going). Big, BIG mistake - I had on my running shoes. Within the first 5 minutes of being on the court, I was up at the net and reached to my left to make a return - not even a big reach, mind you - and my foot just rolled over on itself. Being young, stupid, and proud I finished the game - but the accident nearly finished me. Stressed and partially torn ligaments in my foot - 2 hrs later it was swelled up on the bottom of my foot like a grapefruit! It's never been the same since (and that was well over 20 yrs ago!) RUnning shoes only have stability front to back - whereas true tennis shoes are made to be stable front to back AND side-to-side. I found THAT out the hard way. So make sure, whatever you do, you have the right shoes for the job - it can make a huge difference!

OK, I weighed in yesterday and thought it was a fluke. So I weighed in again this morning, and I'm here to report that my rant about needing new numbers must have been heard by my brain. I'm down 5 lbs. exactly. As you can imagine, this is what I looked like the last two mornings after looking at the scale: :bugeyed: .

Now, it'll be something if I can just maintain it. What I've done so far is use the South Beach Phase 1 plan, and about 75% of the food I've eaten is organic. I also walked 2 times for 30 minutes or so. And, a lot of cleaning around the house, and a lot of dancing that freakin' "Step in Time" sequence from Mary Poppins. My daughter is totally hooked on that right now, and there's no sitting down until Admiral Boom shoots those rockets at the chimney sweeps! Resistance is futile, so I'm now trying to actually learn the choreography. :kickingco

Lol! Okay, I am NOT jogging in my hiking boots! I may be ignorant in this area, but I'm not that bad!

I should be more specific. I do not exercise formally, ever. I really hate it. But I am very active, and the things I like to do all seem to involve specialized footwear. Ice skating, skiing (although we haven't done this much since we had kids), hiking, rollerblading, and swimming.

So the athletic shoe thing doesn't come up much, although I have thought I could use something more acceptable for biking. Anyway, you're all making me nuts with all your marathon talk anyway! I was thinking yesterday, "Okay, I'd only have to do that nine more times without stopping. That wouldn't be too bad. No...."

Stop the insanity!

congrats nono and gopherit!

All I have done is stare at the still wrapped pilates DVD on the TV and take my lunch to work. No more hamburger/grilled cheese and fries....Unfortunely I rarely have time for lunch at work, so I find myself eating my lunch on the way home at night. Even better. No stops at Wendy's because of Laziness. I am down 1.5 lbs in a week, Each time I weigh.

A word about organic. I so want to go organic, but (1) the lack of a organic store within 50 miles (2) the cost factor are major stumbling blocks right now. I know it is so much better for us. yeah they have like chopped up organic carrots at walmart, but nothing you can eat on for a extended amt. of time.

I will do the pilates dvd today. I will.

I did ten miles on my recumbent bicycle today and then I did really slow weightlifting (lift up for a count of ten then down for a count of ten):bugeyed: When you do it like that, it really fatigues the muscle and help you build lean tissue. Oh, and I worked out Saturday and Sunday, yeah!

Congrats to everyone losing so well!! I hope for the same on my weigh-in day!

Way to go jnrrt on teh exercise. You're gonna' hate me, but if you're going to do any regular walking or running, you need runing shoes. Go to a running store and let them help you selcet a pair. The first pair will be pricey. After that, you can usually find good deals online if you're looking at hte same shoe. BTW - I hold on when I'm on the treadmill. (I got better after I got used to it, but don't reacommend watching football if not hanging on. One interception and I darn near killed myself! (Sorry for the sports reference))

10 miles is awseome LIsa!

Hope you're doping better Cobbler!

Need to do a bit more catching iup, but then I'll ge t a tally oging of how everyone's doing.

I was bad over the weekend, but not horrible. 2 nights of buttered popcorn and dh made my favorite waffles Saturday. I was down 1/2 a pound Saturday morning, up a pound SUnday and up a half this morning, go figure. I'm back to work and back to being better again now, though.

Fluids alone will make your weight ricochet all over the place...that is why I generally dislike my scales...

I did 2.6 miles on the treadmill this morning. I am really having to watch how strenuous my workouts are though with the fluid still on my knee:( I actually find it easy to put distance on my recumbent; I've had three years of practice on it:thumbsup:

Hey gang! I'm a little late joining, but I have been doing WW for a couple of weeks, so count me in on the challenge! My biggest challenge will be the excercise! I also HATE to excercise. Not sure why, I was a dancer all the way thru college and even taught aerobics for a while! YIKES! But, I hate it all now. I have a terrible sinus infection today, which is why I'm even home on the computer, but you all have inspired me! So, as soon as I'm feeling better, I will start to do something. I will not promise a whole 30 minutes at first, though. I know me, so there's no since in lying, right? DH and I did purchase great new hiking boots for Christmas and we've been a couple of times. It's a little chilly out lately, so I don't knwothat I'l be outside, though. I'm thinking I can maybe start with the pilates tapes. I also have a mountain bike, but I rode just around the block one day last week and it about killed me!! Well, it hurt my legs like heck at least.

So, you guys are doing great- I will be down that 5 pounds or else! I lost 5 the first week I was on WW, then was bad last week and gained 3.2 back. So, I'll be good again and join you guys!

5 to go...

Disgusted gopher here...

Did some excercise past few days (stairs - whew - and general sit-ups, aerobic excercise, etc.) ANd sure enough, I've gained a pound.

I am not even gonna step on a scale 'til next week. No sense getting this rodent depressed. But sometimes I guess a scale has to be cruel to be kind... just gotta give myself time to turn it around. Once I have some of this flab converted over to muscle it will work in my favor. Sigh..... :(

Actually, no, I really liked it. It makes it a lot more palatable when I can watch TV at the same time, because I don't think the whole time about how much I DON'T like it. In fact, I was really annoyed when I got kicked off, because I'd just gotten really warmed up, and my body wanted to keep going, and had nowhere to go! But then I got another one, so all's well.

No, my problem is getting there. Between my job and my kids, time is really hard to come by. And my youngest one is really attached to me. I had hoped by now I could put him in the childcare room for an hour and go a few times a week when the girls were in school, but that's a no go for now. He's pretty miserable even in the church nursery where he knows everyone. I couldn't leave him for an hour knowing he'd be miserable.

Really, I wish I had one, but there's no way I'm spending the $ on it with my fickle history. And I have nowhere to put it either.

So we'll think of something else, I guess.

Whew, thanks Carrie, I thought I was losing my mind. My email said there was nono's post, but then there was no nono's post...

So, I am officially down a pound, and maybe two, but let's face it, my scale is wacked, and I don't count the pounds as gone until it's obvious for a few days that they are gone. Otherwise, the scale (which has an evil side, obviously, it's a scale) takes pleasure in making me think I'm making progress, and then taking it back. So we'll see if we believe it about the other pound in a day of two.

But today, I did go back to do the treadmill thing. I went 3.25 miles in 45 minutes, which I thought was pretty good. I also (according to my treadmill friend) burned 308.6 calories, for those who want the exact stats. I was pretty proud of that, and I feel fine now.

I've also done some toning, weights stuffs 3 or 4 times this week, since I can do that on my family room floor while watching TV.

So, a few questions for those of you who do this more than me (which means pretty much everyone). How many days a week do I need to do this to feel more "in shape"? Can I do one day since that's about what my kids are letting me have? Or will this be frustration, always starting over? Question two: I walked for the first 6 minutes to warm up, and for the last, maybe 8 minutes, getting gradually slower. The rest of the time I walked fast or ran. Is that a good formula, or what should I adjust? And question 3: how long do you wait in between muscle groups before toning again? I was doing it every night, but my dh says no, it should be every other day to let the muscles rebuild. Dear Abby, who's right?

TIA!

(See that exclamation point? That's from hitherto unknown "exercise endophins" that I have heard rumored, and now believe to exist, since I am not normally this perky. That's me, perky, perky, perky!)

Wow, jnrrt, you did great! You must be in pretty good shape:bowdown: Your pace must have been pretty fast on the 29 mins you were walking fast or running since your warm-up and gradual cool-down added to 14 mins of your total 45 mins; that is awesome for a beginner. No wonder your endorphins are making you perky:woohoo: Good for you!

DH is right about resting your muscles. You should wait at least 48 hours but it really depends upon how sore you made them. I am doing really slow reps right now and I'm only do toning/weight work twice per week for now.

I usually warm up for five and cool down for at least five or however longer I can spare; my body prefers a 6-8 minute cool-down gradually just like you did it:goodvibes

It would be great if you could do at least three aerobic workouts per week. If you only get to do the one, be careful not to push too hard and risk injury...

Thanks Carrie - yesterday was truly a challenge with the little one. My public service announcement for today:

DON'T HAVE KIDS!

OK, back to the challenge...I'm down 2 for the week. Tried 3 times this morning to get it to down 3, but the scale wouldn't accept a bribe!

Remember, I've got a Disney week before the end of this challenge, so I had to get a quick start, as I'll likely gain a little while there for 6 days! I have been very disciplined in sticking to South Beach Phase 1 style recipes, except for Saturday's Chinese NY banquet. Also, we've been alternating walking 30-40 minutes 1 day, with a yoga session the next. Not earth-shattering, just trying to establish a positive pattern.

LIsa - My foot was much better Saturday and has felt better when not runing too. I think tonights run will really show me how much better I am. BTW - TOM effects me for a good week and a half. Could be as much as 5 pounds. If Wed's not so good, chalk it off to water and wait for what next week says. You can't help it, so don't let yourself get bothered by it.

Alas, I tried to be good.... but dash it all, being good on a business trip is tough stuff! I was VERY good at breakfast both days, and no snackin' during the day (my worst habit.... this Gopher likes to GRAZE!) But I didn't have a say over the lunches and dinner, and while I tried my best to stick to the program... well, some places don't leave a whole bunch of choice for the diet-minded.

Ugh.

I think Mr. Scale is gonna get his revenge on me by week's end. :(

Well....I gained half a pound back! How depressing, so far my only accomplishment in this challenge is a half pound down. I'd like to blame it on my TOM but that hasn't started yet. I think I need to cut back on grazing also, gopherit. Mine happens between lunch and dinner mostly.

I am going to try harder this week than I did last week:handshake

gopherit - hang in there. Hopefully teh lack of grazing and business will win out over 2 parger meals. I'm a grazer too. Very hard.

Lisa - I think a week before could still be water. I know it would be with me.

I'm hoping that's why I'm up a pound and a half. I know it will come back down,, though. I've had a lot of salty stuff this week too, but I've been good with my eating. I may not hit 5, but if I'm down a couple, that's much better than going up. There's still time to go, though.

OK, so here's how good I was yesterday:

Today is dh's b-day. So, I ordered the cakes for 2 instead of gettign a big cake. Thinking this would help me be good. So, I go to pick it up last night and they've got this chocolate plaque on it that says Happy Valentines Day. I did not realize it woul dhave a plaque. NOw, dh is very good to me. I don't want him to think I just picked up whatever they had and that's what this implies ot me. I ordered it in advacne with his favorite ice cream and topping.

So, I ask if they can just take that off. Well, he offeres to replace it, it will just take a minute. I told him that wasn't bnecessary, but if it wasn't too much trouble, a Happy Birthday would be great.

So, here's me, who loves ice cream and waffle cones watching people get ice cream and smelling waffle cones, which they were making fresh. After about 10 minutes, I see the guy come back and fill the mold again. (Beummer, must have screwed up the first one.) So, someone else whispers at him and looks at me and said, "I'm sorry this is taking so long, would you like a scoop of ice cream on the house?"

Ahhhh! Be good. Be good. "no thanks, that's ok." he looks at me like I'm nots, "Can I get you samples of anything?"

So, now that he thinks I'm totally insane to turn down free ice cream, so of teh best I've ever had mind you. So, I say," No thanks. I'm really trying to be good because I will have had coldstone twice this week." he seems to accept this and goes away. There was a very nice gril who tried to keep me entertained when she was not serving people. I feel really old in there anyway, as they are all high schoolers working.

Finally, after 20 minute, no kidding, of me smelling waffle cones and turning down free ice cream, I could go. I get to my car and I smell like waffles cones. I go to Curves and still smewll like waffle cones after. SOmebody shoot me.

So, I'm really proud of myself for being so good. After dinner dh says, "SOrry there wasn't that much for dinner, but I've got a treat fo ryou in teh freezer."

Is the whole world out to get me?? He got me Godiva Dark Chocolate ice cream because it was as close as he coudl get to DTD Ghiardelli dark chocolate hot fudge. I tried sooo hard. Oh, did I mentiont eh cake for 2 really looks like it serves 4?

Carrie, if we had a "giant hand" smilie that I could get to pat you on the back, I would. That was truly heroic. I sound like I'm funning, but I'm not.

I had the same (although, not as bad) experience at a kid's birthday party this weekend. I stayed to help, it was at a bowling alley, and they ordered in pizza, and it looked really good, and it sat there and called to me in its sweet little pizza voice. And I had some, but only 2 pieces (and they were the little square ones, okay?!) and I was okay with that because I was actually hungry, and so that's okay in my world. We only eat when we're hungry, but if we're hungry, by golly, we'll eat what we want! But after that, there was cake, and I turned down the cake. And everyone looked at me like I was nuts, and I said again, no thanks, and again, I was seen as nuts (but really, this was not nearly as bad as yours, because I don't think bakery cake has anything on waffle cones anyday).

Good job, Carrie! And just remember that you can take 10 minutes to eat one spoonful of that ice cream which sound awesome. I'm not saying I would necessarily do that, but theorectically, it's possible. And you've run a marathon, so I think you could do most anything, right?

Okay, I am posting that today, I have to work the dreaded concession stand at the basketball game! I'm getting frustrated. I feel like I've been really good. Even yesterday, which was a family food bonanza as my whole family are major Steelers fans, and we all got together and everybody made way too much food - I was not great, but not bad either. And I ran another 3 miles on the treadmill. So I can't understand why my weight is just not budging. Maybe I'm just making muscles? I just don't know, but I'm pretty tired of reading the same numbers every day.

PoohsPal
02-06-2006, 06:16 PM
jnrrt - You very well could be making muscles, which weigh more than fat. This happens especially when startign to exercise. Hang in there!

AmyBeth68
02-07-2006, 01:05 AM
ITA.....I think what you are seeing is all that build up of muscle from your workouts. Try doing measurements (waist, thighs) instead. A lot of times you'll see a bigger difference than the scale!

I was kinda good and kinda bad this weekend:tsktsk: Hubby and I celebrated Valentine's Day a bit early this year. We stayed at a nice hotel in our area Saturday. We went to their Prime Rib buffet Saturday evening. Instead of a baked potato (loaded), I had broccoli and cheese:thumbsup: , but then I had dessert:bugeyed: I took DH to a show of his favorite comedian! The next morning, we did the breakfast buffet there - very nice with seafood and lots of other temptations. I did well again for the meal, except, once again, I had dessert:jawdroppi

I am hoping that I didn't do much damage:fingerscr I am having my eat light day today as always...oh and my hormones are confused again...no TOM yet:huh: :headscrat

I just have to report that I'm not using water as an excuse. I was down to even this morning, so I really am having water issues. By next week, I should show a loos. Just need to get through this one.

Lisa - 2 desserts and a baked potato will not throw you off that much, as long as you go back to normal this week. I have to treat myself sometimes or else I'll feel deprived and go off the deep end.

Well, I did my official weigh-in, and I still have an overall 1/2 pound weight loss to date. I'm not too unhappy with that. It is better than weight gain, right! Plus, I am still TOM challenged as I expect that will happen any minute, so that might mean some weight loss is hiding in fluids like you, Carrie! I have my fingers crossed for next Wednesday which will be my final weigh-in:blueflowe No, I won't lose five pounds but at least I have been paying attention:thumbsup:

I know I'm not the best erxample, but I really think that just losing SOMETHING is a step in teh right direction. :kickingco For me, iot will mark a slow, but steadl loss since NOvember. Seeing as I went up from l;ast Jan to NOvember, I'll take that as a victory.

Way to go jnrrt and Lisa! Any loss, or lack of gain, is still a great accomplishment!

I'm up 2.5. I think if I had 2 more days (TOM), I'd show a loss, but just gonna' have to take my lumps this time. I started so well, though.

I'm glad the rest of you did not follow my lead. Looks like I need to up teh water, up the exercise, which I should be able to do soon and get my tousch in gear. Maybe this would help. :zipit:
