 I was so glad when they started allowing Southwest to fly to other states from Dallas --- but it seems to me that the flights are more expensive than American's. As I look at the website it appears to me that the flights are not priced per round trip but by each way. Am I reading it incorrectly?

SWA always quotes one-way fares. And because of SW's "Ding" offers, most fliers will only buy one-way fares. :)

:idontgeti What is a "Ding" offer? Is this something that I should scout for? Thanks for the reply.

Southwest has fallen victim to gas prices. In the past I've gotten PHL-MCO DINGS for as low as $39 one way (with taxes it works out to less than $100 for a round trip ticket). Now DINGS are more date and flight specific. We usually fly on Friday, and Friday is one of the days they no longer do PHL-MCO DINGS.
I've noticed this more recent pattern with Southwest. When they open prices up, round trips are less expensive than one-way flights. Then they raise prices, so even round trips are costly. Then the lower prices again, and add one-way fares that equal the original one-way prices. I originally had my December trip booked as a round trip ticket, but because of Southwest's policy I was able to rebook each leg of the trip one way with no price change from the original round trip. Since we're not flying on Fridays in December, I'm hoping for a DING.
Elaine, here's an explanation of DING fares (http://www.southwest.com/hotfares/signup.html?ref=cns_ding_hp), but you need to download software that sits on your PC (I don't know if DING works on Macs). You have to jump on DING fares while they're being offered, and it's usually around 6 hours.

Elaine,
I can't remember what the weird rules are for SW flying out of Love Field (:idontgeti ), so before you go to the trouble of installing Ding, check that SW flights from there go to your destinations. I do know that Austin, SAT, and Houston get pretty good Dings.

This past year the "Wright" amendment was finally overturned. Now SWA can fly from Love Field (and DFW) to 13 additional states directly from Love. It does not look like that MCO is one of the places where they can fly non-stop. The rules are still wierd. But sometimes the flight prices are great (right now $79 roundtrip to St. Louis for example). I signed up for the DING prices - thanks for letting me know about them. One of the places that my husband and I regularly fly is to Pittsburgh and they have a special going on to Pittsburgh right now. Lucky me!

Happy traveling. :kickingco
Glad that they finally overturned it; maybe one day they'll fly non-stop to MCO. When we lived in Plano, we used to get pretty good fares on AA DFW- MCO. Do they still offer them?
This has got to be the greatest title ever on this board. Every time I see it, I smile. Good job!!! :slyasafox

We got an excellent ding fare for Oct 30th (Tuesday) of $36. We are hoping to get a return flight ding fare for Nov 4th (Sunday). So far nothing, but there is still time. We are flying out of BWI.

I agree. Very misleading title unless you fly from/into Dallas and notice the capital "L".
DING works fine on Macs by the way.
