It's been a rough week so I thought I'd share some good news.

Those who read the Star Wars Weekends threads may know that I was trying to work it out to make the event this year. When the SWW dates were posted earlier this week, I started looking at a couple different scenarios for airfare. The best option seemed to be a Spirit flight from Detroit to MCO. It wasn't absolutely perfect in that I'll have to leave home between 4:30 and 5am to make the plane, but the days are right, we'll be on the ground in Orlando around 10am, we can use DME for free, and the return flight doesn't leave until later in the evening.

When I first looked up this flight, it was showing a base price of $79 per person each way. Not bad! With the taxes and other fees I think it came to about $175pp round trip.

Thursday night I happened to be browsing the net and something made me look up that same flight again. To my astonishment, the same flights (both ways) that I had decided on were showing a rate of $54 each way!!!!!

Needless to say, we're now booked for a Tuesday to Friday trip in May at $128 per person round trip! Woo-hoo!

Also noteworthy is that this will be my first ever Guys' Trip. It will be me, my 5yo son and a cousin of mine (who is like a brother.) We'll all be sharing a studio somewhere--have to wait until Tuesday to figure that out.

So I'm pretty pumped. The APs will be paid for. The DDE card will still be valid. I'll have about $300 in reward dollars on our Disney Visa to cover food and souvies. DME is free. And, the airfare was absolutely dirt cheap.

It's a little bittersweet since DW won't be coming along, but she's burning all of her vacation time during our trip this February. She has been really supportive, which is great.

It will be a scant 10 weeks between Disney trips this year. I can live with that. :)

That is an awesome rate! I'm really hoping a Ding comes up before then.

I booked SW for myself and DH the other day but couldn't book the kids yet ....they might have to stay home LOL. My little "Anakin" will not be happy about that!

Actually I had over $250 in credit for SW that expires in February. I was able to get customer service to extend the credit for 6 months, but they have to issue paper vouchers for the credit. I won't receive the vouchers for 2-4 weeks and I have to go to a SW ticket counter and exchange them. So I booked mine and DH's ticket at the $79 internet rate before it went up and I'll get the 2 kids tickets with the vouchers...hopefully the flights won't sell out before then! Then I'll really be in a mess :hammer:

I just booked a Ding rate from Buffalo NY for May of $49 each way this past weekend! We are going for a little break Thursday to Monday (it coincides with the Canadian long weekend in May -the week before Memorial Day weekend in the US). We will be starting our celebration for my DH's birthday. One other great thing about SW is they fly direct and non-stop to Orlando from Buffalo. Looks like this will be our only trip this year since we borrowed some points last year to go to DL (we borrowed to stay at GCH BEFORE they announced the point reduction - bad timing!!!:headbange

I prayed and prayed for SW to come to Denver. Now it is here, but it only goes to
Vegas, Chicago and Baltimore for now. (I'll pass). Hoping that it does great and that near future I will see a Denver/MCO connection! Then DING me away Calgon.

I planned my trip to Puerto Vallarta today. I have a vacation club there that is pretty awesome so I am going in March for almost two weeks and my DD will meet me there. Used to be that fly time Denver-PV was 2.5 hours but it seems that the planes take about a half hour longer these days. What up?

Tim, I think guy trips are fun...just like girl trips (we have one going in May with idratherbe, jiggerj, matysgramma and me and maybe a few more. Looking forward to it!

So...I envy your great airfares! Denver isn't blessed with many, tho it keeps trying ! Hope you and the Annakin have an awesome trip.

Hey Colorado Belle!
You can always fly Southwest to Chicago (I'll meet you at Midway and we can fly into Orlando together). Just a thought, Linda! Those ding rates are so darn hard to pass up. My airfare went from $195.40 to $169.60 to $115.60. Im sure I'll find some way to use the $80 credit.

Congrats on the great airfare tim! And I am going to have to show my kids your post. They goof on me for going three times a year (they are 15 and 21 and once a year is enough for them at this point). Wait until I show them someone who goes every ten weeks!
