Well I am new to this board and new to DVC. Our first trip home is 10/28/07 OKW 2 bedroom. Followed by 4 day cruise on 11/04. I have heard about reserving a room at the Atlantis resort for the night you are in Nassau as a less expensive alternative to paying for it as a shore excursion through the cruise line. Has anyone done this and how has it worked out for you? Any input and advice would be appreciated.:sailing: :msmouse: :Pirate:

We will be on the 4 day just prior to yours but we aren't stopping there. I do know the ship does not stay there overnight and if you are asking with the idea that you can stay there...well if you want to miss the rest of the cruise, you can. You will have to provide airfare home though. There are no flights into castaway cay. Are you asking whether it is possible to book a room and get visiting rights to the amusement park for the day for less than the cost of just a park admission? The room for 1 night is $285 for 2 adults and 2 kids...I don't know admission price but if it is around $100/person, it may work.

yes Skelster, the 'admission' what the cruise charges for a shore excursion from the ship is $155 per person, and around$100 per for kids (at Disney kids are any one over 9 or so). So even at that price it is a deal but I thought I read somewher that if you wait long enough they post specials closer to the stay date. You also have a place to shower and change before you go back to the ship. Maybe stop in the casino? Also Comfort suites across the street allows full access to Atlantis at a lower price and I have read somewhere you can walk to Atlantis.

I don't know a whole heck of a lot about this as I've never been too interested in doing it but I know that the day room you're hearing about is actually not for the Atlantis but for a resort next to the Atlantis that shares the Atlantis' vast pool. If I can I'll look for that info and post it here for you. I'll do some fishing.

I have read somewhere you can walk to Atlantis.

I was last here in 1999 so things could have changed but I would consider walking to Atlantis difficult and dangerous from the Port.

The Atlantis complex is on an seperate small Island and while it just across the water from the docks where DVC ties up it is quite a ways to the only bridge. The bridge itself is similar to a multilane highrise freeway overpass bridge in the States in construction and while there is room at teh edge of the road to walk I don't recall a seprated safe walking area being a feature of the bridge (maybe it is but I don't remember one).

We caught a cab at the Dock for something like 40 bucks and got a multi point Island tour including a walk through of the Atlantis complex for that price plus tip (again it was 1999).

IMHO the cab ride is worth it for the safety.

SillyMama,

Even though you are cruising in early Nov., this may be of use from travelzoo.com:

Atlantis, Paradise Island, Bahamas just announced an amazing midweek (Sunday-Wednesday) special of $129 per night through Oct. 31. Weekends are only $20 more per night.
This offer is for the resort's Beach Tower rooms and provides a savings of 40% OFF regular rates! Plus, if you book now you can save 30% OFF the Dolphin Shallow Water Interaction at the Dolphin Cay through Dec. 19.

To take advantage of the offer, you must book by Sept. 14.
For reservations and more information:
Call 800-ATLANTIS (800-285-2684) and mention rate code TZNZ. Or, Click here to book online at Atlantis.com. NOTE: Rates displayed online include all nights. To confirm the nightly rate, divide the total displayed by the number of nights you're staying.

Thank you all for your input.

From what I read at the Comfort Inn Suites site when you reserve a room you are allowed full access to Atlantis Aquaventure and to ALL the amenities at Atlantis - restaurants, casino etc... It is from what I am lead to believe just across the street from Atlantis Resort. We will, of course, take a cab there. There are 8 of us so it will be more like a bus!
We are not planning on reserving a room for day use but reserving it as though we are staying there 1 night, but dropping off the keys as we leave at the end of the day.
If those specials for Atlantis are good until 10/31 book by 9/14 then maybe after 9/14 new specials will be posted for early Nov. I can only hope but I don't want to wait too long and get locked out with no rooms available.
Without tax through DCL shore excursion it would be over $1000 so even two rooms at close to $300 is still a deal. If I wait and the rooms go down to $129 it would be even better!
With so many of us we are trying to squeeze all we can out of our vacation dollars.
