View Full Version : HOW to pay my dues??

Ok, I am torturing myself over this, why, I don't know.
I own 200 points, so my dues are approx $768 and I have the money, that isn't the problem.
Do I have them take it out of my checking account every month? Or
do I charge it to my Disney Visa to a) earn reward dollars and b) pay it once and not think about it?
Everyone at work that I asked (they think I'm nuts for having a ''timeshare'' anyway) says I am crazy to put it on a credit card. Even DBF says I should have it taken out of my checking. And he has a degree in finance and works for a banking institution.
But I hate to have a big amount on the credit card before I trip and I have one in March. But mentally, I hate knowing something ''has to be paid every month''
Hmmm, what do you think?
TIA

If you have any sort of debt at all, then use the direct debit option. It's an interest-free loan for 12 months.

We have it taken out every month. But, I think if I had the Disney Visa and the money to pay it all off when it show up on the bill, that's what I would do. It would give you lots of points wouldn't it?

Athenna, we plan to put our dues on the Disney Visa to earn reward dollars. Tim has a point, however, if you do have accumulated debts other than say a mortgage or a car, then it would be better to just add an interest free monthly debit:teacher:

HTH!

I have nothing other than a mortgage, car is paid for. I'm actually in the mortgage process, if I get my townhouse. So that's another reason I was thinking to put it on the cc, might look better when I go through the mortgage process, won't ''look'' like I have a debt to pay every month.
Does that make any sense?:idontgeti

Well, nothing like waiting until the last minute, huh?
I paid them today w/the Disney Visa over the phone.

I don't think dues show up on credit reports as debt. So dues shouldn't show up.

Dues shouldn't be debt. It's more like a bill. So I would think it would be the same thing as putting your electric bill on auto pay. The bank wouldn't care.

But if you have the money, why not charge it, (as you did) and then take the money out of checking to pay it off? Then you don't have the balance on your card, and you got the rewards?

cobbler is right about the debt not showing on the credit report. By paying on your Visa, you will earn $8.00 of Rewards:cool: That will buy a nice snack at WS when you are there with your Dad:jumpingbe

Hi girlfriend,
I was trying to get online to pay dues, but my tower exploded a couple days ago and all hell breaks loose when I can't get online (at the same time as I can't get down my driveway...still having those crazy snowplow problems but it is a CIVIL suit if someone steals your keys ya know.

Anyway.....I think Tim has a good point and convinced me....the CC only gives me one month of using someone else's money plus $8 lousy dollars. The other way, I pay with future dollars (cause of inflation worth less dollars)...never thought of it that way Tim, so thanks....I will see if I can get on the auto deduct!

Funny story: my parents paid cash for everything , including our house. When I was on my own teaching skiing in Aspen, I taught some Chicago financiers who said NONONO...you must use credit cards (but pay them off every month of course). Using interest free money for a month is sound bix....so I went to the other extreme and put everything on CCs (which, because I always pay everything off is still a good way to go...especially if you contest things). So....now I have learned something .....if you are paying over the next 12 months interest free, you are really saving money end game.

Thanks for starting the thread Athenna...we can all learn from your innocent questions.

You're welcome, girlfriend! Oh, I'll always have plenty of innocent questions to ask, DVC and otherwise. Just glad I have such helpful people like you all to help me when I'm stuck!
