I'm so excited to find this new forum. I was just wondering, are any of you "single" visitors happily married? Types like me-DH likes WDW, he's just not as fanatical about the place as me. Once a year is enough for him, but I want to go more often. So WE go once a year, and in addition, I go another time each year, while he stays home with our cats. I even have my own separate DVC resort, with points there to "fund" my solo trips. We have 210 points at OKW for US, and I have 100 points at BCV just for my solo trips. Anyone else married but taking regular solo trips?

Me!

I'm going solo in May. I've planned a lot of solo trips. There's only one problem. Everytime I plan a solo trip, I always seem to end up having company. The last solo trip was to be in Dec, and there ended up four.

So maybe in May!

I have gone solo on one occassion (it was my reward for driving the minivan down for DW and the kids to have a 6 week holiday in Florida)

Stayed at AKL then BWV then HRH - it was a great week - I did miss the family somewhat but it was a fun week to be at WDW as a solo adult - really had a chance to slow down and had a great time watching other people have fun and also helped a lot of people as well

cheers

That happened to me a couple times-unexpected company. So that's a big reason why I don't talk about my upcoming solo trips to anyone except DH. Fortunately, he's very supportive of my "need" to go solo. I don't go golfing with him-he doesn't go on my solo trips to WDW.

It seems I met someone like you at BWV last August on one of my solo trips-but wasn't she from some hoity-toity state?

Be careful Simba's Mom (can I call you Serabi?) you'll get a rep like Tony!

I am married and would love to go solo. I get 4 weeks vacation each year and DH only gets 7 days :( He and I would love for both of us to be able to go more, but since he can't, I am trying to figure out how to convince him I can go alone. Of course, that means he'd have to keep DS alone, so I'm not sure that will work! Maybe for just a quick trip. I am hoping I can try baby steps to see.

Sounds like DH and DS need some "Father-son bonding time". And you'll get out of their way for a few days to, let's see.....hmmm, how about WDW?

Actually DH and I are going the first week in May (to OKW-to him there's no other resort), but he golfs every day, so it might as well be a solo trip during the day. Today I booked my "official" solo trip-currently scheduled for Labor day week at the BCV.

Well, you are going the same week as idratherbe, jiggerj, matysgramma and me!
Jiggerj will have her family with her, but the rest of us are 'solo' this trip. We are planning lots of girlie girl fun including margaritas on the balcony, roller coaster meltdowns in the pool, a PJ party, and other fun stuff.

We'll all be in the BW...so it will be up to you to 'come visit' whilst DH is playing golf.
The more the merrier!

Well, I'll be one of those travelling solo but meeting up with some pretty fantastic people from this board...So do you really call that "travelling solo"? Both my husband and I love Disney (I more so than him}. He's accompanied me (along with various other family members) on our last three trips, so now it's my turn to just have some fun on my own. I figured I'll be too pooped to miss him and the rest of the family....AND Colorado Belle FORCED me to sign up with her to do the Segway tour, so needless to say, I'm looking forward to having the time of my life!

CB - So I'm assuming this means you are all there at the beginning of May? Rats, I'll be arriving on the 17th. I considered the beginning, but decided I hadn't been to Star Wars Weekends in a while, so timed it for the first weekend.

I'm happily married and go to WDW solo. I usually travel to the BWV for the month of January; DH visits when/if he can get away. (He says that at least one of us should have some fun!) :hahahaha:

I'm also there in early Dec solo, too. :santa:

I've used Old Key West on many occasions solo on business trips if that counts. If you think of it as your second home instead of a place to use as a base to visit parks, it's a great "glad to be home" feeling. And at restaurants, eat at the bar....sure beats sitting at a table for one in my view.

I went to several conferences in Orlando by myself. And of course, whenever the conference hotel cost more than AP rates at WDW I booked WDW. I found it a little weird, but loved my nights when I did BOTH Fantasmic and Illuminations, and got to eat where I wanted to (Morocco). The hot tub at CSR was the best for a solo person.

My DP would happily support me need to go solo, and to go on my own $$$. As long as he pays half the fees and mortgage payment, he's clear that a point won't be spent without him enjoying it!!!

I have never been to WDW "solo", but I do go without my DH. He is not as crazy about it as the kids and I are, so we have gone about four times without him

Maybe someday I will travel "solo", but my 1 year old and I are "attached at the hip" so it wont be for a VERY long time. I can't complain though....my older kids love Disney like I do and I really enjoy the time we have together there. I couldn't imagine going without them.

OK, so I'm going to quote myself because I had to laugh when I saw what I wrote.

As usual - I didn't end up alone! A friend from India joined me - she wanted to see WDW before she returned to get married - so she was with me for 4 days.

Seeing WDW thru the eyes of an adult in awe renewed my sense of magic. It was wonderful. She just kept saying - this is so magical, this is like a whole other world, everyone is so nice, all of my dreams are coming true.

I think it was just as much fun for me as it was for her.

So having said that - in Dec, I go alone for one day, the on a cruise for MouseFest alone for 4 days, then alone at WDW again for 3 days and then DH joins me for 6 days. Ahhhhhhhhhh...........................

I am going on a SOLO (with a friend) Halloween trip. My Wife is staying home with my 7 (then 8) year old son.... I admit that I find it hard to go alone (adults that take a trip alone is OK, but leaving the son behind something I hope never to do again), but it was either a solo trip or no trip at all....

I'll make it up to my son (and wife) though when we go in August 2008 for a minimum of 14 days (and maybe ad a week somewhere else in the US before going to WDW)... and with a lot of future WDW trips together after that...

This October trip will be full of stuff my son (and wife) might not enjoy. A hope to do a tour, some special dinners they might not like and a couple of Halloween Horror Night visits at US...

The good thing about this trip... I'll have our family trip booked even before my SOLO october trip starts...

DW has already planned her first solo - sort of. Her best friend moved 2 hours away early/mid last year. Those two are taking the kids (2 a piece) and heading on down for the very first visit ever on points. I (DH) will remain at the house and continue to go to work to fund the payments for her little excursion...

And yes - I am glas she is going - she LOVE WDW and deserves to go have fun.

I don't do it regularly but I've made solo trips to conferences at WDW in 2002 and 2006. Last year's trip resulted in 10 park entrances in 4 days (in addition to the conference). Also last week a similar trip to Disneyland in conjunction with a conference in Irvine. If the opportunity arose, I would not have a problem with a solo trip. Probably would not blow points on just myself though -- I would save those for family trips.

I would LOVE to go on a solo trip if I could swing it. Dh probably wouldn't mind, though. DS would not lilke it one bit, though. I'd love to take just him, too. Maybe one day...

You got that problem too! I am a teacher so I have lots of time available to enjoy DVC, but my DH would rather sell points than let me use them without him. This really bugs me since one of his arguments to get me to buy DVC in the first place, was that I could always use any extra points to take trips without him. :tearsaref

Where as I ship my wife off with the kids for a week...

She wants me to go but there is no way I am going back to WDW in June....:scary:

This December 6th I will arrive at WDW for my 8th annual solo trip!
We don't have kids, but we do have 2 fur children! LOL!
DH just prefers to stay home with our two cats. He's been retired for
quite a while, he says that he doesn't need a vacation !
But seeing that I am still working, I really do need a vacation !

I did a solo this past January. We had points to burn off and DW could not get away, so I did a 4 day trip on my own. I enjoyed it, but to tell the truth I'd rather go with my wife in the future.

I don't think a solo trip would be all that much fun.

Solo trips can be a lot of fun, but I find that I enjoy them more when it is just one of multiple trips in a year. DFi doesn't get as much vacation time as I do so it isn't unusual for me to go without him. Of course the DVC membership is mine, bought before I ever met him. I might have a hard time in the future convincining him to add-on and then taking the trips by myself. :)

I go solo once a year - by solo I mean with 3-6 of my best girlfriends:)

I consider solo any time I'm not with hubby and kids.

The deal at our house is as long as there is enough points for our family to vacation at wdw once a year, the rest of the points are mine, all mine.

I do not take solo pleasure trips. I am gone too much already on biz.

I have concluded that I would make a lousy bachelor... so I have given Debbie strict instructions to outlive me.

Ah, yes-you remind me of another reason why I enjoy my solo trips so much. I also have a DH who travels ALOT on business, so I'm used to being home alone (sometimes it's OK, but sometimes it's not so great). DH fully supports my solo trips, figuring he leaves me home alone enough, so it's OK for me to return the favor. And I'm more than happy to. Maybe your DW would like a solo DIsney trip.

But being home alone is worse than being on a biz trip alone. DW and DD26 went together to MA a week ago, leaving me alone. It was just plain freaky to be alone in the house. I hated it.

If she is going to WDW... I think I'll join her ;)

I haven't gone solo yet to WDW, but I usually have a girls only trip in May. The past 3yrs we've been going to Montego Bay Jamaica. Thank the stars that DH knows how great a getaway is for me. I get to recharge my batteries, act like a loon with some girl friends, and our last Jamaica trip was 9 girls (Adult women) strong!

When we bought DVC, I managed a few points for my girlie getaway - Heh heh. I mean it was cost savings - of course! After all, flights to FL are cheaper than Jamaica right now. Since my DD is starting school (Kindergarten) Sep 2009, the shorter girls getaway are going to be more manageable. I am just hoping to be able to "sell" going to WDW to my friends. The news about PI closing REALLY makes it that much harder :(

I had to "sell" disney to girlfriends too. They all wanted a Vegas type trip, more adult, they all have kids and couldn't imagine going to disney on our 3 nights a year without kids. But I had 1 friend who helped me talk the rest of them into it. They all had such a great time this is our 5th year anniversary trip with the girls!

Debbie and I are in Vegas right now (I worked here this week)... and we have noticed a lot of "gals without their husbands" type of groups. It sure looked like they have been having a whole lot more fun than Mr Toad's Wild Ride.
