Well everyone sat down and decided that August would be best to go cause they want to hang out at the pool. Now I just have to see if I can switch to BCV at the 7 month window.

I think August is a great time to go. We were just looking at our pix from our Aug. 2000 trip...we both got really short haircuts and had a blast! Wish you smooth :sailing: for the change up at seven months!

Thanks. We've decided that if we can't get BCV then we may give OKW a shot.

I have been thinking about an August trip for a long time. I want to try the end of the month, just before school starts (after Labor Day). I just don't know about the crowds and the heat. Anyone been at this time?

John,

It has been a few years, but I've gone the week before Labor Day. It's hot, but so's NJ at that time...

The park hours are still rather generous, and the crowds are pretty darn thin compared to July.

We always got up at the crack of dawn, got to a park right away, had lunch around 11:30 or so, would head back and nap in the air conditioning (this was pre-kids), get up and go to the pool, then shower up, have a drink and a snack, and then head back to a park. It was awesome. We also liked to dine late, so we'd get some rides in before heading to dinner. Those 2 -3 hour naps followed by a dip in the pool really kept us cool and rested!

this is exactly what we did this past August for my 30th bday week, and it worked out great. We haven't been in the summer in a billiongillion years for fear of the crowds and melting. We found it to be a very enjoyable trip, and a nice bonus is the parks are open later, so that 3 hr nap fits in just fine. Much different than the off season when we usually go, we usually don't take breaks if the parks are closing early.

have a great trip!!!!! :sunny:

We went this past Aug (21-26), stayed in a BCV studio and booked at the 7-month window.

One of the best trips we ever had. Really low crowds and great weather. It is now our favorite time to go.

OKW was our second choice as well, but we didn't have any trouble getting a BCV studio.

This is exactly when we went last year and it was WONDERFUL! I was very very skeptical about August/September b/c of the heat and rain but it turned out to be a fabulous low-crowd time. Plus we really did make an effort to relax and enjoy the resort (we stayed at OKW that trip)....we hung out at the pool every day!

The weather wasn't that much more hot or humid than NJ in August. And the thunderstorms were part of the entertainment LOL!

So this year we planned the same week, just up until Labor Day. We actually fly home on Labor Day this year...and I'm hoping the NJ schools don't go back before then! The crowds were VERY light....it was actually weird at MK. The one day we were there NO LINES at Dumbo at NOON.

So I say go for it....lower points and my kids are off school are both bonuses for us!

We've now been there twice post-Labor Day and LOVE that time period. The first time we did it, it rained nearly every day but not an all day rain. It was very humid. It was still an awesome trip...the lines were non-existent.

Last Sept. we went closer to mid- end-September and the crowds were a bit more than the previous year. But I attribute that to the free dining package. Lines were still pretty non-existent and the weather was nice and hot.

September is now one of our top choice time periods to go.

Done Aug several times now - we are going this year too! We like to go during the 2nd& 3rd weeks - lower crowds but the parks are still open late. And we really use those pools and water parks! I just made our ressies @ OKW for the 12th-18th today after 4 days at US/IOA and RPH...Can't wait!

This is so good to hear! I've been agonizing over this time period because of the crowd levels. The heat doesn't bother us, but the crowds+heat will.

We're planning on the 17th - 21st. Probably will only do parks early morning and night. We plan on spending a lot of time at the pool and maybe trying a water park for the first time.

gopherit, we're also doing Universal when we go. Club Level at RPH with a AAA discount :cheerlead

It looks like we are going to be able to stay at BCV. I was able to get the first 3 days today, now I just have to do day-by-day for the next few days.

Oooo, great minds, thinkin' alike again! We're doing club at RPH too! I bought the 2 day tix already (and got 2 "free" kids' tix) and am holding out on buying my ticket because I *might* get an annual pass at US/IOA for myself... ahh the dynamics of a family of five. :p I'm picking up my US/IOA tix while I'm in Orlando on business in March - I'll make my dcision then. I need to figure out if the discounts (for dining) with teh AP are a big enough boost versus the AAA discounts to justify it. Maybe RPH will come out with a better APH rate that will make up my mind for me... otherwise, I'll hold steady with the AAA! ;)

I was always able to get BCV on pts at the 7 mos when we have gone in Aug before, so you should have decent luck! We had no sweat getting OKW at 7 mos (we own at BWV). I promised the kids Sea World and BCV for our next WDW trip, LOL - pretty sad that we haven't gotten through THIS trip yet and I'm already bargaining / bartering for the NEXT! :hyper:

What date(s) are you traveling?

Can I ask you guys how the room rates are at RPH? I'm thinking of tacking a few days on for US/IOA as my kids enjoy those parks too, we'll be there in August as well. It definitely pays to stay on site there!

Right now we're booked at BWV for the last week in August. We head back home on the Sunday before Labor Day!

Well, with a AAA discount, the rates are 263.20 for a Club-level room. They are offering a Stay4-play free program, but in my perpective, it doesn't pay off. The rates for that were $329 per nt - for 4 nts, you're looking at about $66 more per nt, which over 4 nts is $264. Current ticket promotions are buy one - get one (buy an adult ticket for $99, get a free kid ticket). These are good for up to 5 days, so from my view, you do better getting a AAA-rate room and buying the tix separately. (Room for 4 @ 263.20 per nt, tix for $198 + tax.)

I am still checking to see what ticket I am going to get for me, since I'm using the 2 adult / 2 kid tix I bought for DH, eldest DS (who is 11 and an "adult" by theme park rules!) and 2 kid tix for our 9 and 5 yr old. If APH rates look good and the math for the extra 5% food discount (versus AAA at some restaurants) looks good, I may get an APH. Otherwise, I'll stick with AAA and get a buy-one-get-one ticket for me and do something with the "freebie" ticket, I guess.

GO into the http://www.universalstudios.com website and go to the resorts to just check out prices for your timing - later in August may have better rates than what I'm quoting. We just figured that with 5 in our party, club room made sense for us. The rates for std and deluxe queen room are better than what I've quoted here.

Unfortunately, we can't take advantage of the "Kids play free" special. My kids are 14 and 10. We have left over tickets from the last trip though so I am going to upgrade the kids' tix and buy 2 more adult passes. That gives us all 2 days.

We were originally booked at the Hard Rock for our trip but the club level at RPH was only another $30 a night. That pays for a continental breakfast and snacks so it's a good deal to me.
